Admissions to our school

Children enter the Foundation 1 class at the beginning of the term following their third birthday. Parents from the local area of Brotherton and Byram may request a place for their child at any time. Pupils from outside the area are admitted if places are available.

There is a meeting for parents of children entering the Lower Foundation at the beginning of the term in which they are due to start. The children then come on an introduction visit to the Foundation Class with their parent before they start in their sessions. Soon after, they begin Foundation 1 Class sessions. We have produced a separate booklet which outlines admissions to the Foundation Stage Class.

Places are allocated on an age basis. The first category of entry will be ‘Looked After Children’, the second will be children with a special need, the third will be children from the school’s catchment area, and the forth will be children from outside the local area.

They come into the Upper Foundation Stage full time at the beginning of the school year in which their fifth birthday falls.

There is also an evening meeting for parents of children moving from Lower Foundation (P/T) to Upper Foundation (F/T), before they begin.

The part time Foundation 1 Class is able to admit up to 26 children to the morning session and the same number to the afternoon session. The Reception Year, who are all full time from the September before their fifth birthday, are the Foundation 2 Class.

We are able to admit 30 children into each year group in school. We will have approximately 150 full time children in main school, with a further 23 full time reception children in the Foundation 2. Main school is organised into 6 single age classes.
